Gun Safety Measures to Protect Children

As a society, we have a responsibility to protect our children from the dangers of firearms in the household. I strongly support comprehensive gun safety measures designed to prevent accidental shootings and unauthorized access, particularly by minors. This includes backing Ethan’s Law, which mandates secure storage of firearms when children are present in the home.

Beyond Ethan’s Law, I advocate for additional safety measures such as:

  • Mandatory Education: Requiring firearm safety courses for gun owners, with a focus on child safety.
  • Safe Storage Incentives: Offering tax credits or rebates for purchasing gun safes and other secure storage devices.
  • Trigger Locks: Promoting the use of trigger locks as an added layer of security in households with children.

These common-sense measures are designed to uphold responsible gun ownership while prioritizing the safety and well-being of our children. If elected, I will work tirelessly to implement and expand these protections to ensure that every child in Louisiana and beyond grows up in a safe environment, free from the preventable tragedies associated with unsecured firearms. This shouldn’t be a partisan issue – this is common sense.

Guns & Common Sense

Look, I support your right to protect yourself & your family. I support your right to hunt and participate in other sportsman activities. That’s fine. No one wants to take your gun if that’s what you’re doing. But no one needs an AK-47. No one needs a high capacity automatic rifle – unless they’re planning to do some serious harm to a lot of people. Let’s have a common sense gun control policy. Not one that criminalizes law abiding citizens, but one that obviously seeks to keep dangerous, nonsensical guns off the streets and keep dangerous, nonsensical people from having one. That’s not an extreme position, it’s common sense.
